BLESSED NIGHT; LEYLE-İ BERAT
This night is ‘Blessed’ because it is a fertile and prosperous night; the ‘Berâet’ meaning is given due to the forgiveness of the sins of the servants of Allah and their coming forth; It is also called ‘Mercy’ due to the blessing of Allah’s servants, and ‘Berâe or Sakk’ due to the selection of Allah’s servants who observe the holy night.
Berat is the Turkish form of the Arabic word barâe/berâet (البرائة). Berâet, “there is no relationship between two things; means the person’s release from an obligation or the absence of an obligation. On the fifteenth night of Shabaan, this night is called the night of Berat, with the hope that Muslims will be freed from the burden of sins with Allah’s forgiveness and forgiveness.”
The night of Berat was considered sacred by Muslims, and it became a custom to spend this night differently than other nights and to worship more on this night. Hz. It is narrated that the Prophet said, “Allah, by His mercy, manifests himself in the world sky on the fifteenth night of Shaban and forgives more people than the number of hairs of the Kelb tribe sheep,”191”). According to another narration, Hz. The Prophet said, “Worship at night in the middle of Shaban and fast during the day. That night, Allah manifests itself in the sky of the world with the sunset and until the dawn comes, ‘Is there anyone who asks me for forgiveness, let me forgive him, or if he asks for sustenance from me, let me give him sustenance. says” (Ibn Mâce, “İḳāmetü’ṣ-ṣalât”, 191). The fact that some scholars accept that the turning of the qibla from Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem to the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca took place on the night of Berat in the second year of the Hijra, which adds a special importance to the night.
Other narrations of why the Prophet gave special importance to the month of Shaban and especially the fifteenth night of this month, is said by scholars that spending this night by praying, reading the Qur’an and praying will lead to rewards, especially for this night. Some say that establishing forms of worship and celebration and making them a tradition has no place in religion. According to some sources, there is no special prayer for the night of Berat.
Berat Night is in the holiness of Leyle-i Kadrin, as it is like a holy core and is part of the program of human destiny. In Surah Dukhan (44/3), it is stated that the Qur’an was revealed “on a blessed night”. According to the majority of Islamic scholars, the night indicated here is the Night of Power. Because in other verses, it is stated that the Qur’an was sent down in the month of Ramadan (al-Baqara 2/185) and in the night of Qadr (al-Kadr 97/1). A group of scholars, including Ikrima, one of the scholars of nature, is of the opinion that the verse in the Surah Dukhan refers to the night of Berat. In this case, an interpretation emerges that the whole of the Qur’an descended from the Lawh-i Mahfuz to the world sky on the night of Berat, and that the verses began to descend gradually on the Night of Power. As a matter of fact, some commentators adopted this view (see Elmalılı, V, 4293-4295).
FIVE HATS OF THE NIGHT OF BERAT
There are five characteristics of the night of Berat:
1) Every important decision is made by Allah tonight.
2) The virtue of worship that night is great.
3) Divine mercy spreads.
4) It is the night of forgiveness.
5) That night, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was given the full right of intercession.
Within a year, the events that will occur until the Night of Berat of the next year are written in a notebook by the angels. Earthquakes, events, wars that will occur within a year… Their notebooks are given to Gabriel Aleyhisselam. The books related to food are given to Mikail Aleyhisselam. And the notebooks of those who will die are given to Azrâil Aleyhisselam.
In a hadith, our Prophet (pbuh) points out the blessings of the Night of Berat in various ways.
“When the 15th night of Shaban comes, spend the night awake in worship and the day in fasting. That night, after the sun sets, God manifests to the heavens of the world with his mercy and calls out as follows:
‘Is there anyone who asks forgiveness, let me forgive and forgive. Is there anyone who wants sustenance, let me give sustenance immediately. Does anyone have a calamity, let me give you health and well-being right away.’
So it goes on like this until dawn.”
Because that night, divine mercy increased. Berat Night is a unique opportunity given to people while drawing the program of human destiny. How lucky is a person who can make use of this opportunity and have his sins forgiven, convey all his heartfelt wishes to Allah with all sincerity, ask Him for his wishes, and seek refuge in Him from troubles. On the other hand, how miserable is a person who cannot benefit from the manifestation of mercy that surrounds all sides.
Our Prophet (pbuh) informs those who were not forgiven on this night with the following hadiths:
“Verily, Allah Azza wa Jalla will catch up with His mercy on the fifteenth night of Shaban and encompass everything. He forgives all his creatures. Except for the polytheists and those whose hearts are filled with enmity and think of nothing but confronting people.”
“Allah Almighty forgives all Muslims tonight, except the one who is a soothsayer, magician or observer (who holds a lot of grudges) or who is fond of alcohol or who hurts his parents or persists in adultery.”
“Allah manifests itself on the fifteenth night of Shaban and forgives all his servants except those who disobey their parents and associate partners with Allah.”
Our Prophet (pbuh), who entered the three months with a different spirit and meaning, paid special attention to the month of Sha’ban and tended towards worship and the hereafter at an unprecedented level. While he spent most of his days fasting this month, he would revive his nights in a very different way from other nights.
Hz. Aisha (ra) got up and started looking for the Prophet. Finally, he found our Prophet in the Cennetü’l-Bakî cemetery with his head raised to the sky. Our Prophet Aleyhissalâtü Vesselam explained to his blessed wife the virtue of Berat Night as follows:
“Verily, Allah Almighty manifests His mercy to the heavens of the world on the fifteenth night of Shaban and forgives people as much as the hairs of the sheep of the Banu Kelb Tribe.”
If the value of good deeds is ten at other times, it is twenty thousand in Berat Kandili. For example, if ten rewards are given for a single letter of the Qur’an that we recite at other times, twenty thousand rewards are given for each letter on this night.
In this respect, if we can work with full sincerity and strive for its revival, Berat Kandili can bring us the reward of a fifty-year worship life in one night.
“For him, it is a great profit to engage in the Qur’an, istighfar and salawat as much as possible.”
Our Prophet Aleyhissalâtü Vesselam prayed to his Lord tonight as follows:
“O Allah, I seek refuge in your forgiveness from your torment and your consent from your wrath, and I seek refuge in you from you again. I am incapable of praising you properly. You are exalted as you praise yourself.”
He congratulates your night with my prayer from Almighty God that the Night of Berat, which we will revive with this understanding and consciousness, will be a blessing for humanity and the Islamic world.
